Missing Image Covers Fixed

We have just resolved an issue which caused some intermittent issues with missing image covers.

Turns out one of our image servers was out of sync with its peers causing the random disappearance of some image covers. Usually these early hardware symptoms are caught by our self-monitoring system but this particular server was mistakenly left off our monitoring list.

Problem solved and everything should return to normal within the hour.

 

Forum Search Fix

Fixed

• Search bug that would cause an extended delay for new forum info to be displayed in the forum search engine.

 

Stats Delayed Notice

A few of our databases from our stat servers are currently at 100% capacity causing delayed processing of story hit/view stats. We are in the processing of resolving this issue and getting the wheels spinning again.

Please note that we do not expect any lost statistical data as they are just temporarily delayed.

Resolved 403 Errors

A software upgrade intended to improve performance and security caused compatibility problems yesterday resulting some random 403 errors displayed to users.

Fixed

1. Random 403 errors caused by changes in software upgrades performed yesterday.
2. Blank pages for forum threads where the topic title starts with a number.

 

Minor Updates

1. Allow apostrophes within searching keywords and phrases such as “Mike’s wishes”. Due to caching, this change will take up to 1 hour to take effect.
2. Increased character limit in search field to allow longer searches.

Fixed

1. (FictionPress Only) Some new stories are not properly indexed in the search database.
2. Some forums are not properly indexed in the search database.

 

Doc Manager Bug Fix

This is an early bird edition for an important bug fix.

Fixed

• Compatibility with some finicky .doc files for the Document Manager uploading/submission process.

 

New Story Updates/Bug Fix

• One of our slave database was out of sync with the master causing some new stories/chapters randomly showing not found errors. This should have been caught by our monitoring software and we are working on a patch to make sure it does not happen in the future.

 

Site Loading Fixed

At 2:50PM GMT-7 US Pacific Time, we experienced a technical glitch with our 3rd party content delivery provider causing site to load with broken layouts. The issues have been resolved and everything should be loading up normally.

We apologize for the short inconvenience and are in contacts with the provider to see what went wrong and how to prevent this from happening in the future.

 

IE 9 Fix

Fixed

• Misc/random bugs with certain navigation features for users with IE 9 browsers. Issue was caused by an updated 3rd party software package (jquery 1.8.0) which introduced new bugs. We have since downgraded to the previous known good version.
